The new cab from Kolpin for the Polaris Ranger XP 900. The cabs are offered for a range of popular UTVs.

Kolpin Powersports have launched their new cab enclosure system for UTVs. The new enclosures feature:

  • Doors and windshield with automotive glass
  • 5mm thick polycarbonate door panels, double-hard-coated with a steel understructure
  • Maximum visibility design
  • Components that are computer designed for each UTV model for easy and quick installation, removal or re-installation
  • Windshield of automotive safety glass that tilts outward
  • Sound absorbing, insulated, metal roof
  • Two-stage latch and keyed locking feature on cab doors
  • Optional kit for windshield and wiper kit

Transport Canada UTV Recalls

In December 2012 Transport Canada announced a number of recalls related to UTVs. Here is a quick summary:

  1. John Deere  2012 RSX850I – The fuel line connectors in the engine compartment may not have been properly connected. The connectors could separate and create a fire hazard. 466 vehicles are affected.  Learn more:  Transport Canada
  2. Can Cam Commander models:  Limited 1000, 1000R, 800R, DPS 1000, DPS 800R, X 1000, XT 1000R, XT 800R for model years 2011, 2012 and 2013. If some are operated in deep water (over 30 cm) with floating debris like leaves or grass, accumulation near the exhaust system can create a fire hazard.   10,800 vehicles are affected.  Learn more:  Transport Canada
  3. Can Cam Commander models:  1000R, 800R, X 1000, XT 1000R, XT 800R for model years 2011 and 2012 and model year 2012 for the Limited 1000. The lower splines at the steering column to rack and pinion joint may not be sufficiently engaged. Polaris Adds To PG&A With KLIM Acquisition

Polaris Industries announced that they have acquired Teton Outfitters, LLC, a privately owned, Rigby, Idaho-based company which designs, develops and distributes KLIM Technical Riding Gear.  The company’s 2012 sales are expected to reach 30 million, primarily in North America and from the snowmobile market.  KLIM has a presence in the snowmobile, off-road and adventure touring motorcycle markets and a network of 850 dealers.  Polaris management expects to leverage KLIM’s design capabilities and strong brand with the global resources, infrastructure and dealer networks of the various Polaris Industries brands to further boost their growing and highly profitable PG&A business.  The KLIM CEO will remain with the company which will operate as a stand alone business. Teryx Tire Mount – Kawasaki recently made available a spare tire mount for their 2008-2012 Kawasaki Teryx 750 4x4models.  The tubular steel mount bolts onto the back portion of the rollover cage.  Learn more:  UTVGuide.net

New Arctic Cat Wildcat Accessories Available

Arctic Cat recently introduced three new accessories for their Wildcat utility vehicle:  a flip-up windshield, a soft-cab kit and an aluminum light bar.  The windshield retails for $399.95 and is constructed of scratch and abrasion-resistant polycarbonate.  The soft cab kit retails for $649.95 retail and includes the roof, back panel and doors, each constructed from durable 9-oz., heavy series Surlast fabric.  The light bar retails for $229.95 and provides secured mounting for overhead lighting atop the front cab bar.  Lighting must be purchased separately.  Learn more:  Powersportsbusiness.com

Last monthWindsor, Canada based Unconquered Sun introduced a solar roof product for golf cars.  Management states that the 260-watt EV Solar Roof can extend a golf car’s range by 30% and battery life by 25%.  Golf course fleets are the initial target market but NEVs and golf cars for personal use offer additional markets.  Learn more:  Ourwindsor.ca

GPS Intelligence Offers Weather-Proof Vehicle Tracker

GPS Intelligence recently launched their ToughTrack PRO product to provide GPS tracking for a wide variety of vehicles including UTVs.  The small device is dust-proof and water resistant and can be installed anywhere in the vehicle.  The product features backup power and a variety of anti-theft features including:

  • Real-time monitoring
  • Remotely triggered tamper-prevention and anti-theft measures including lights, horn, door lock and starter disable
  • Alert notification based on user defined events such as primary power cut, trailer disconnect, open trunk and ignition on
  • Alert notification based on unauthorized movement or moving out of a pre-defined geographic perimeter

Solar Power For Emergency Vehicles

Streamlight, Inc. is partnering with PowerFilm to provide flexible solar panels as an auxiliary power option for emergency responder vehicles.  The PowerFilm panels would be used to power lights, computers, radios and other electrical components.  Streamlight plans to begin selling the products next month.  While their primary market appears to be full-size police vehicles, they also see potential in the utility and industrial  vehicle markets as well.  PowerFilm already supplies E-Z-GO with solar panels for their electric vehicles. Rappa Fencing Machine

Rappa's ATV fencing machine adapted for UTVs

In the UK fencing manufacturer Rappa has adapted their ATV fencing machine for UTVs.  The setup is good for about 2 km of stakes and fencing wire.  A steel frame is attached to the tailgate and the fencing machine is attached to the frame.  According to the manufacturer taking the machine on and off can be accomplished quite quickly and easily.  The product is another indication of how UTVs are supplanting ATVs in the farm segment.  Learn more:  Farmers Weekly

VP Racing Fuels Announces New Powersports Fuel

VP Racing fuels recently launched their new T4 fuel for powersports.  The fuel is only for use in competition vehicles such as UTVs, ATVs and motorcycles.  T4 was developed in response to complaints about ethanol in pump gas causing problems with fuel injectors and carburetors.  Learn more:  Powersportsbusiness.com
