Kandi Technologies Coco Sales Figures Questioned

A recent article by Sharesleuth raises questions about the veracity of Kandi Technologies sales figures of their Coco electric vehicle.  Sharesleuth compared the overall Coco sales figure of over 3,700 to what they could piece together from calling the limited number of dealers in the US.  Their figures point to less than 1,000 vehicles sold in the US, a main Coco market.  Other figures that raise doubts include:

  • Kandi said it sold 2,110 Cocos in its very first year on the market, which would have ranked it among the top companies in the industry.
  • Although one of Kandi’s investor-relations representatives said the company took orders for 1,200 orders Cocos in Oklahoma in 2009, state records show that only 328 buyers claimed tax credits for Coco purchases.
  • Kandi’s most recent SEC filings contain lower 2009 sales numbers for the Coco and other vehicles than the company originally reported — without any corresponding adjustments to revenue or earnings.
Kandi did not respond to any of the questions Sharesleuth sent them.  Learn more:  Wallstcheatsheet.com

Garia Wins “Honourable Mention” In The Red Hot Design Award

From the press release:

Among 4,433 entries from approximately 1,700 companies from 60 countries, The Garia has been awarded with an ’Honourable Mention’ in the Red Dot Design Award 2011. The jury of highly respected experts grants this recognition to products with especially refined detail solutions.

“As always, our jury cast a very careful eye over the products submitted. Design quality has asserted itself clearly in the judging process, with genuine and new creative solutions also being rewarded. Both of these criteria are not just yardsticks for good design, but also for the potential for success on the market. This potential is increased several times over by the targeted use of our renowned design award”, says Professor Dr. Peter Zec, the initiator of the Red Dot Design Award.

Designed and developed in Denmark, The Garia is a complete reinvention of the traditional golf cart. It is developed according to the user’s needs with a wide range of user-friendly features such as an extra large cabin with a comfortable and car-like driving position, an innovative easy-access golf bag holder, a new type of director selector and a digital cluster. “We set out to build the world’s best golf car and based many of the design improvements on in-depth usability research, and with this prestigious recognition I truly believe that we have succeeded in our efforts”, says Mr. Anders Lynge, designer of The Garia.

Along with hundreds of other prize-winning product designs, The Garia will be on display from 5 July to 1 August 2011 in the exhibition “Design on stage – winners red dot award: product design 2011” in the red dot design museum at the world heritage site of the Zeche Zollverein Coal Mine Industrial Complex in Essen. Nissan Planning A Small Urban Vehicle

Nissan New Mobility Concept

Nissan New Mobility Concept

Nissan recently announced that they are planning on introducing three additional electric vehicles besides the Leaf in the next three years.  One will be a small urban vehicle, referred to as the New Mobility Concept.  It is not known at this time what the performance parameters of the vehicle will be.  While the New Mobility Concept looks very much like a low speed vehicle, Nissan could design the vehicle to have a higher top speed than currently allowed for LSVs.  According to Nissan the vehicle could be the ideal last mile transportation solution for commuters connecting to public transit or for residents of planned communities.

Nissan’s entry into the LSV market would be an important event in the market since major auto manufacturers have not been active in the market, except for Chrysler which has operated under the GEM not Chrysler brand.  Earlier forays into the previously labeled NEV  market by the majors was essentially only to meet California ZEV mandates.  Nissan’s move appears to be part of a strategic plan to develop a robust electric vehicle product line.  Their market entry could also create more demand for NHTSA to develop a medium speed vehicle classification.  Learn more:  Reviews.cnet.com
