CT & T Partners With Electric Vehicle Technology Manufacturers

CT & T recently announced a joint venture with PUES Corporation and E-1 Technology.  The joint venture is focused on bringing in-wheel direct drive motors and rapid charging technologies into the market.  PUES and E-1 have already been working together towards commercializing the PUES technology.  According to the report,

Electric vehicles with in-wheel motors are lighter weight (27 percent less than conventional motors), offer improved energy efficiency (by as much as 95 percent), better performance (doubled driving distance range) and increased power (from 2.5kw to 25kw).

CT & T produces the eZone NEV and has plans to offer a full range of electric vehicles from city cars to buses.  The company is currently finalizing sites in the US for a North American headquarters, research center and manufacturing facilities.  Learn more:  www.swampfox.ws

SymPowerco Acquiring Utility Vehicle Manufacturer

SymPowerco which develops advanced fuel cell and power delivery systems for the personal transportation and portable power system markets is in the late stages of acquiring Hoss Motor Sports and Highline Hydrogen Hybrids.  Hoss Motor Sports is currently moving to new production facilities in Dumas, AK where they will manufacture utility vehicles for the search and rescue, construction and sport utility and off road enthusiast markets. Highline  has developed a supplemental hydrogen system that significantly reduces emissions from internal combustion engines.  The company is planning to introduce a product for off-road commercial vehicles.  Learn more:  Earthtimes.org

Chrylser Wants To Sharply Reduce The Number Of GEM Dealers

Chrysler will argue in bankruptcy court next week that it should be able to eliminate 64 of 150 GEM dealers.  This represents just over 40% of the GEM dealerships.  According to Chrysler management 26 of the dealers are already closed or winding down operations and many others have only sold a “handful” of vehicles in the past two years. Comment: This development is not too surprising. In recent weeks I  have interviewed a number of NEV dealers for an upcoming study and some of them, not just GEM dealers, have shutdown or put their operations on hold.  The economy has a large part to do with their difficulties as well as misjudging the interest in these vehicles for personal transportation. Tomberlin Anvil Production to Begin Next Month

Tomberlin management recently announced that production of their Anvil LSV will begin at the end of July.  Executives are promoting the vehicle this week with an appearance Monday morning on CBS’ Early Show.  The Anvil is targeted for planned communities and urban/suburban short-distance trips.  Learn more:  Augustachronicle.com

Smith Electric Vehicles USA Update

The company is on track to begin production in July and reports a”strong expression of interest from fleet operators” including Frito-Lay and Canteen Vending Services.  The related story also includes a short video with the CEO where he talks about some of the advantages for drivers including less fatigue from constantly having to shift gears, as well as the need for developing a supply chain to support an electric vehicle market in the US.  Learn more:  treehugger.com

Kawasaki Layoffs Finalized

Kawasaki Motors Manufacturing laid off 320 employees last week following an earlier buyout offer to workers in their consumer products division, which produces their utility vehicles and other products.  Management reported that nearly all the layoffs were the result of voluntary acceptance of the buyout.  As a result, the consumer products workforce at the Lincoln, NE location has been reduced by 25% to approximately 900 workers.

Kawasaki’s consumer products division reported a sales decline of 22% for the fiscal year ending in March.  This is on par with first quarter declines recently reported by Polaris Industries and Arctic Cat.  Learn more:  Journalstar.com
