ZENN Reports Sharp Drop In Vehicle Sales

In the third quarter ending June 30, 2009 ZENN Motor Co. reported selling just 19 vehicles compared to 67 for Q3 2008.?? This is slightly more than the previous quarter when only 16 vehicles were sold compared to 54 the prior year.?? In the first half of 2009 ZENN has now sold a total of 35 vehicles compared to 121 in the first half of 2008.?? This a decrease in unit sales of 86 or 71% from the prior year.?? Long Drive Solar a marketer of solar-powered LSVs from Cruise Cars is in talks with the Jacoby Group to provide the vehicles for two of Jacoby’s real estate development projects.?? One project is the Atlantic Station in midtown Atlanta and the other is the Aerotropolis Atlanta near the Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport.?? Wheego Electric Cars Raises An Additional $1.2 Million

Wheego Electric Cars, maker of the Wheego Whip, recently announced that the company had raised an additional $1.2 million from existing investors.?? The Whip is expected to be available next month as a low speed vehicle or medium speed vehicle.?? Next year, after crash testing is completed, the company hopes to sell the Whip as a full speed vehicle.?? Management expects to sell 1,000 of the LSV/MSV version in the first year as they build up their dealership network to 50 dealers.?? Comment: Selling 1,000 of these vehicles in the first year appears to be ambitious given the economy and currently lower gas prices.?? ZENN recently announced a sharp decrease in sales of their LSV which has a similar price point.?? Smith Electric Vehicles U.S. recently delivered the first six trucks from their Kansas City based plant.?? The keys to the Smith Newtons were handed over during a ceremony at the Washington D.C. Mall.?? Companies receiving the trucks include Coca Cola, Staples, Frito-Lay, AT&T and two utilities, Pacific Gas and Electric Co. and Kansas City Power and Light.

Modec Electric Van Selling Well

Modec recently announced a 100 vehicle order for their all electric urban delivery van.?? ElecTruckCity, their new distributor based in Paris, placed the order and has already sold 40 of the vehicles to customers.?? The order is worth about $4.9 million USD or approximately $49,000 per vehicle.

The electric van received EC Whole Vehicle Type Approval allowing it to be sold across Europe without gaining country by country approval.?? The company is currently seeking government approval to begin sales in the United States. The vans were designed from the start as battery powered vehicles and specifically for urban use. They have a range of 100 miles, a top speed of 50mph and a 4,000 lb payload.

Modec sees great market opportunities for the vehicle as management expects to be producing the vehicle on three continents in five years and reach a total annual production of 50,000 vehicles.?? After extensive research and evaluation the United States Special Operations Command (SOCOM) has ordered 1,625 Kawasaki Teryx recreation utility vehicles to serve as tactical vehicles.?? The $28.4 million order was won through a bidding process by Houston based UV Country.?? The order will be filled over five years and works out to be about $17,500 per vehicle.

The specific model in the contract is the 2009 Kawasaki Teryx 750 FI 4×4 RUV which features side-by-side seating for two adults, a roll over protective structure (ROPS), front discs and a special sealed rear brake, four wheel independent suspension, a tilting cargo bed with 500 pounds of carrying capacity and the ability to tow up to 1,300 pounds. Kawasaki Motors Manufacturing laid off 320 employees last week following an earlier buyout offer to workers in their consumer products division, which produces their utility vehicles and other products.?? Management reported that nearly all the layoffs were the result of voluntary acceptance of the buyout.?? As a result, the consumer products workforce at the Lincoln, NE location has been reduced by 25% to approximately 900 workers.

According to a press release from Kawasaki Motors, 320 employees at their Lincoln, NE plant are being offered buyouts.??
