Arizona based SolarMotion Laboratories has become a Technology Sponsor of the Southwest Section PGA. The company makes solar powered golf car roofs that are compatible with golf cars from the three leading manufacturers, E-Z-Go, Club Car and Yamaha. SolarMotion plans to launch their product in the next two months and the solar roofs will come with a four year warrantee. CT & T Partners With Electric Vehicle Technology Manufacturers
CT & T recently announced a joint venture with PUES Corporation and E-1 Technology. The joint venture is focused on bringing in-wheel direct drive motors and rapid charging technologies into the market. PUES and E-1 have already been working together towards commercializing the PUES technology. According to the report,
Electric vehicles with in-wheel motors are lighter weight (27 percent less than conventional motors), offer improved energy efficiency (by as much as 95 percent), better performance (doubled driving distance range) and increased power (from 2.5kw to 25kw).

SymPowerco Acquiring Utility Vehicle Manufacturer
SymPowerco which develops advanced fuel cell and power delivery systems for the personal transportation and portable power system markets is in the late stages of acquiring Hoss Motor Sports and Highline Hydrogen Hybrids. Hoss Motor Sports is currently moving to new production facilities in Dumas, AK where they will manufacture utility vehicles for the search and rescue, construction and sport utility and off road enthusiast markets. Highline has developed a supplemental hydrogen system that significantly reduces emissions from internal combustion engines. ZENN Takes Larger Stake In EEStor
Last week ZENN completed an additional $5 million equity investment in EEStor. This investment increases ZENN’s stake in the energy storage developer from 3.8% to 10.7%. ExxonMobil and Electrovaya Announce LSV Sharing Program
ExxonMobil and Electrovaya just announced, AltCar, a vehicle sharing program to be based at the Maryland Science Center in Baltimore, MD that will use Electrovaya’s Maya 300 low speed vehicle. The fleet of five vehicles will grow to ten shortly and people will be able to rent the vehicles for the day. The Maya 300 uses Electrovaya’s Lithium Ion SuperPolymer battery, which incorporates ExxonMobil Chemical’s separator film. Learn more: greencarcongress.com

Smith Electric Vehicles US & Altec Partner On Utility Truck
Smith Electric Vehicles US (SEVUSA) and Altec Industries will work together on the development of an all electric utility truck with an aerial bucket. SEVUSA will use their Newton truck produced in Kansas City as the basic vehicle and Altec will integrate their aerial product. The utility truck is targeted for utility companies and Pacific Gas and Electric will be involved in the development of the vehicle as well. Electric Utility Study Demonsrates Efficiency Of E-Z-GO’s RXV
A recent study by the utility Southern California Edison that an E-Z-GO RXV electric golf car which uses an AC drive is as much as 39% more efficient compared to standard DC drive golf cars. The RXV also features full-time regenerative braking and a PowerWise QE charger that help improve energy usage. The AC drive golf car was also reported to maintain higher performance. Breakthrough In Lithium Ion Battery Technology
A Canadian research team has reported a high level of performance in their developmental work related to lithium-sulfur based batteries. According to the researchers:
This composite material can supply up to nearly 80 percent of the theoretical capacity of sulfur, which is three times the energy density of lithium transition metal oxide cathodes, at reasonable rates with good cycling stability

ZENN Certifies EEStor Technology Milestone
ZENN recently reported that a third party had certified an important technology milestone reached by EEStor. Independent tests showed that…
…the main material in the ultracapacitor technology achieved relative permittivity of at least 22,500 over an operating range of -20 to +65 degrees Celsius. Permittivity is a measurement of how much energy can be stored in a material.
Per the agreement with EEStor, reaching the milestone triggers an additional $700,000 payment by ZENN and an opportunity to increase their equity stake. The next milestone is to commercialization of the technology, which according to the agreement, is supposed to start by the end of 2009.
