{"id":417,"date":"2009-05-12T15:57:55","date_gmt":"2009-05-12T15:57:55","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/smallvehicles.wordpress.com\/?p=417"},"modified":"2009-05-12T15:57:55","modified_gmt":"2009-05-12T15:57:55","slug":"road-use-regulations-roundup-may","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/smallvehicleresource.com\/blog\/2009\/05\/12\/road-use-regulations-roundup-may\/","title":{"rendered":"Road Use Regulations Roundup &#8211; May"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Some trends in this latest regulation roundup:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Some cities are expanding road use regulations to include golf cars<\/li>\n<li>NEV road use ordinances continue to be passed by local municipalities although safety concerns remain an issue for some<\/li>\n<li>Demand is in increasing for allowing utility vehicles and mini-trucks on public roads<\/li>\n<li>Another state looking to adopt a medium speed vehicle law<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a title=\"The Virginian-Pilot\" href=\"http:\/\/hamptonroads.com\/2009\/04\/bill-would-ok-golf-carts-public-roads-nc\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">North Carolina<\/a> &#8211; Bill in the state assembly  would add Currituck and New Hanover counties to a state law that allows golf cars on streets in several resort communities.<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"Pontiac Daily Dealer\" href=\"http:\/\/www.pontiacdailyleader.com\/news\/x180628871\/Busy-summer-expected\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Pontiac, IL<\/a> &#8211; Ordinance being drafted that would allow the use of modified golf cars as NEVs.<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"Just About Normal\" href=\"http:\/\/adamnielsen.wordpress.com\/2009\/05\/01\/electric-car-demonstration-set-for-monday-night-at-normal-city-hall\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Normal, IL<\/a> &#8211; Considering an ordinance allowing the use of NEVs on city streets.<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"wausaudailyherald.com\" href=\"http:\/\/www.wausaudailyherald.com\/article\/20090415\/WDH0101\/904150527\/1981\/WDHopinion\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Merrill, WI<\/a> &#8211; City council passed an ordinance allowing the use of NEVs on city streets.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"storyCopy\"><a title=\"Reporter Herald\" href=\"http:\/\/www.reporterherald.com\/news_story.asp?ID=22941\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Colorado<\/a> &#8211; <\/span><span class=\"bodytext\" style=\"font-size:13px;\">House passed a bill that would allow NEVs on public highways.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a title=\"mydesert.com\" href=\"http:\/\/www.mydesert.com\/article\/20090415\/NEWS0301\/904150341\/1026\/news12\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Palm Desert, CA<\/a> &#8211; Safety concerns have stalled a bill in the state legislature that would broaden the use of NEVs on city streets.<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"Fergus Falls Online Journal\" href=\"http:\/\/www.fergusfallsjournal.com\/news\/2009\/mar\/26\/norneschanges-green-acres-needed\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Minnesota<\/a> &#8211; Legislation has passed both the state house and senate that would allow counties to permit the use of mini-trucks, but not on interstate and state highways.<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"Watertown Daily Times\" href=\"http:\/\/www.watertowndailytimes.com\/article\/20090411\/NEWS04\/304119952\/-1\/NEWS\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">New York<\/a> &#8211; The state DMV issued an opinion that utility vehicles are not allowed on roads or ATV trails unless the law is changed.<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"Emporia Gazette\" href=\"http:\/\/www.emporiagazette.com\/news\/2009\/apr\/18\/flint_hills_digest\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">New Strawn, KS<\/a> &#8211; City council approved an ordinance that allows work-site utility vehicles and micro utility vehicles to be driven legally on city streets.<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"1600cush.com\" href=\"http:\/\/www.1600kush.com\/story.php?id=1819&amp;section=1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Cushing, OK<\/a> &#8211; <span class=\"storyCopy\">Passed an ordinance regulating the operation of mini bikes, golf carts, ATVs and utility vehicles on the streets and highways of the city.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"bodytext\" style=\"font-size:13px;\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"bodytext\" style=\"font-size:13px;\"><a title=\"Highland News\" href=\"http:\/\/my.heraldextra.com\/post\/HighlandNews\/blog\/utah_cities_debate_allowing_atvs_on_roads.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Utah<\/a> &#8211; Cities are debating allowing the use of mini-trucks on public roads.
