Golf course rankings are nothing new but, according to the official referee and best-selling author Yves C. Ton-That, none of the previous ones were really reliable. “Existing rankings are primarily based on the appraisal from an expert jury,” explains the passionate golfer, “but independent rankings should be created exclusively on the basis of customer ratings.”
For this reason, Ton-That launched the free EXPERT GOLF – Golf Guide & Logbook app last spring. Today it boasts far in excess of 100,000 golf course ratings and it is therefore already one of the world’s largest rating platforms.
The central component of the app is a database which contains every golf course in the world. Users can select a course in a matter of seconds and flag it as “played” – and they therefore gradually build up a logbook with an overview of their entire golfing life. As well as additional information, such as fellow-players, the result, photos etc., users can save their rating either by awarding stars or by writing a review. This rating is added to a pool that can be viewed by all other users. Players therefore have access to useful tips and they can always find the right course wherever they are.
EXPERT GOLF will shortly be publishing the first golf course rankings for the United States of America. If you want to see the preliminary results now, download the app, search for courses in the US and simply sort the hits by rating. And while you’re doing that, cast your vote for your favourite golf courses – it only takes a few seconds to rate a course.
EXPERT GOLF – Golf Guide & Logbook is available for free from the iTunes App Store.
