Wireless Charging Could Pull Plug on Commercial Electric Vehicles

Date: 3/21/2014 12:04:32 PM Category: Product Introductions
Brooklyn NY startup HEVO Power is helping EVs "cut the cord" with an innovative inductive charging system that replaces typical plug-in charging systems for fleet vehicles, and extends range by putting the charging system at vehicle destinations, instead of back at their home base. The company's Electric Vehicle Optimization Power Network would place manhole-sized inductive charging plates at destinations along a delivery vehicle's route, that would "pair" with a vehicle and begin charging its batteries while the vehicle is making a delivery. By providing intermittent charging throughout the workday, the system can provide unlimited range and automatic charging for electric delivery vehicles in urban areas. The company will be starting a pilot program with several large commercial delivery fleet operators this Spring, and will be able to provide charging stations for neighborhood electric vehicles (NEV) as well.
