A new bill before Utah's state legislature would remove restrictions on the resale of electricity specifically to allow the commercial implementation of electric vehicle charging stations. Under current law, only public utilities are allowed to resell electricity, preventing private companies from offering fee-based charging stations in buildings and parking lots. The bill, HB19, would exempt businesses reselling electricity for EV charging from the regulation as a public utility, and it's goal would be to widen the adoption of EVs and reduce the "range anxiety" brought on by limited charging infrastructure.
